REDESIGNED LEARNING TO INCREASE ACTIVE
ENGAGEMENT AND DEEPER LEARNING
DUTCHTOWN MIDDLE SCHOOL
This high-performing middle school serves an economically and racially diverse student body of over 1000 students. Students with vastly different backgrounds and life experiences bring a wide range of academic abilities, needs and personal interests to the learning in every classroom.
The school engaged in a comprehensive redesign of its traditional instructional model to transfer ownership of learning and academic outcomes from teachers to students. A team of innovative teacher leaders led the way in designing an innovative school-wide model that integrates competency-based learning, student-driven learning maps and authentic learning experiences.
Building Blocks Support: We facilitated each step of the redesign and launch of the school's PL model by facilitating a structured redesign process followed by program evaluation and intensive coaching of teachers and leaders.
