LAUNCHED MULTI-YEAR PLAN TO SUPPORT BOTTOM-UP REDESIGN AND TRANSFORMATION OF EVERY SCHOOL
This large school district on the outskirts of Atlanta serves 50,000 students representing diverse demographics, from the most economically disadvantaged communities to the most affluent.
In 2014, motivated by a desire to better prepare students for success in the 21st century economy, the district embarked on a journey to transform teaching and learning across all 51 of its schools by 2020. The transformation is focused first and foremost on the goal of empowering students to drive their own learning through the exercise of student agency.
The district has been recognized nationally as a leader in personalized learning and district-wide transformation strategy.
Building Blocks Support: We have worked closely with the district for over 5 years to develop and execute a customized school redesign program, school-level implementation supports and an ongoing school evaluation program.
TRANSFORMATION LEVERS
-
Strategic Planning. Six-year plan defined PL vision, core practices & cohort rollout plan.
-
School Redesign. Year-long bootcamps empower diverse schools to design site-specific PL models.
-
Site-Level Leads. District-trained PL leads at each school coach teachers and leaders.
-
Innovation Ecosystem. Coordination of work across key district department creates wrap-around supports for schools.
Building Blocks helped envision, develop, and implement a comprehensive school redesign model that is tailored to meet the needs of the individual schools and the district.
